Radio Blacksmith Knoll is a small power hobby AM station located on the west coast of Finland, next to the Yyteri beach. The current TX power is around 25 watts, big enough to be heard in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, but unfortunately not in other continents even with the perfect “space weather”. We have a plan to upgrade our license in the future for bigger carrier power.

We started this one year ago with only an Icom IC7300 HAM transceiver; this spring we managed to install a real AM transmitter to the site, so the sound quality is now much better than before.

The profile and content of our station are still taking shape; currently, we are transmitting music and some scripted programme, in case we have had time to prepare one. You can see our schedule from our webpage.

Your report is especially meaningful to me, as so many nowadays are based on KiwiSDR receivers located at a “Goldilocks” distance from the transmission site.

It’s quite rare to receive a report based on someone’s own receiver (especially one like yours!) and antenna, and for that I thank you sincerely! Due to current space weather conditions your reception is exceptionally good in quality!

One thing worth mentioning – we’re almost the same age! I’m 52 and also started the DX hobby at a young age. My first DX radio was the Selena B-212 – and I’m quite sure you know that one!

I hope you find this answer adequate; please find attached an eQSL card for your collection and also greetings from the station “Operator”.

Marco "Mac" Johansson, The Operator
